Brome Lake Books / Livres Lac Brome

Picture
Located in the Victorian village of  Knowlton, which was voted by L'Actualité Magazine as one of the prettiest towns in Quebec, Brome Lake Books is a small but well known family-run book store.  My cousin Danny McAuley and his lovely wife Lucy own this charming bilingual shop which is the largest accredited English bookstore in the Montérégie! They feature many local authors and photographic books of the townships, as well as calendars and cards designed by local artists. They provide excellent personal service and have been supplying a complete line of reading and study material to public libraries, universities, elementary and high schools in over seven school boards, and to many satisfied book lovers since 1998!

Gallerie Boutique Farfelu Sutton

Founded as a non-profit in Knowlton in 1984 and relocated to Sutton 8 1/2 years later, Farfelu was conceived as a place for often isolated Quebec artisans to meet, exchange ideas and information and get feedback on their work from the other members in the co-op, and also as as a showcase for their work, a place for it to be displayed and sold while sharing the cost and workload of running a boutique.

In the early years Farfelu was also a place where individual artisans could actually work, giving the local and visiting public a chance to watch and learn more about how they created their products. Workshops are still often given at Farfelu, and there is a monthly exhibit/vernissage in the display room for new and established artists to exhibit and sell their work, give demonstrations and find a wider audience for their craft. It's a great place to visit if you ever find yourself in the area, open Thursday to Sunday all year long.

COOP Alentour

Picture
Coop Alentour is a consumer cooperative that was founded in 1979. Its founders wanted to buy natural products at a better price, so they created a co-op, then rented a warehouse and hired staff.
Over the years, they've had to diversify their activities in order to benefit from volume discounts. The members then decided to set up a retail distribution system.
Coop Alentour, wholesaler of natural food, is the only cooperative to offer a distribution service throughout Quebec and part of Ontario and the Maritimes
The philosophy of Coop Alentour is to offer high quality natural and organic products and foods at competitive prices with personalized, reliable and courteous service. All at the right time and in good quantity.
Coop Alentour is one of the organizations contributing to the development of healthy eating in Quebec
